Cookie
Cookie began drawing classes at age seven and continued through high school and college working in charcoal, watercolors, pastels and oils. Having always wanted to explore three dimensional works, she decided that before the age of 40 she would take a clay class...and, as they say, the rest is history.
Since the mid-60's Cookie has enjoyed success as a sculptor, with many opportunities to be included in innovative and exciting exhibitions throughout the United States.
Having always been an admirer of both contemporary and classical sculpture, that is the path Cookie choses to express her art. While she has made a few wheel thrown bowls and platters, she has always returned to figurative work.
Cookie's artwork is available at Avondale Artworks at 3562 St Johns Avenue in Jacksonville, Florida.
People often ask where I get my ideas, the answer is, everywhere!
Every-day people or events catch my attention and become an image and a story. Nothing stays the same, everyday is an adventure, life is a kaleidoscope of happenings and I take joy in tell telling these stories through my art.
Often I use symbolic enhancements on my figures. All the African or ethnic figures are researched and any symbols that are used are unique to that specific image.
